A Past of
Distinguished Service
Catholic Social
Services has been responding to the needs of the Greater Hazleton area
since 1939. Early chronicles reveal that the work of the agency at
that time reflected a strong emphasis on meeting material needs and
alleviating the human suffering of those desperate times. Food,
clothing, and shelter were the foremost concerns of that era, and
Catholic Social Services was there to meet them.

|
Through the years, new and innovative
programs have been added to the agency's range of services as
community and societal needs have changed. Always the emphasis
has been on strengthening family life and on assisting families and
individuals to reach their highest potential and to find satisfaction
and harmony in their lives. |

For more than sixty years, Catholic Social
Services of Hazleton has distinguished itself in our region by remaining
faithful to its stated Mission, a Mission of Hope: to recognizes the
dignity and worth of every individual, to minister to the needs, both
temporal and emotional, of those who seek its services, and to reflect
the basic Message of the Gospel: Love of God and Love of Neighbor
for the Love of God.

A Future Filled with Hope
Based on an
increased demand for service and an eye to the future, Catholic Social
Services purchased and renovated the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Rectory
and School located at 212-214 W. Walnut Street in Hazleton.
This solid brick building is over 8,000 square feet and provides the
agency with much needed room for additional offices along with space for
educational programs and community meeting areas. The size of the
structure will also accommodate future growth.
Below can be seen
the front view of this monumental step in the success of Catholic Social
