Text Box: Case Advocacy

Case advocacy is the initial assessment of a family’s situation to determine what services are necessary to meet the family’s needs.

This initial process is necessary for all other services to be implemented.

 Case management assists the family in:

  ·  Advocating to ensure ongoing permanency in families;

  ·  Identifying strengths and needs;

  ·  Collaborating with the family to establish a family support plan for service delivery

  ·  Coordinating the provision of specific services to meet the needs of the family; and

  ·  Facilitating collaboration between the systems serving the family.

Text Box: Support Group

This unit of service encourages structured group meetings of families providing permanency on a regular basis.

The support group is designed to ensure that families are supported by building relationships among other parents and children;

forming a community of support and mentoring among families;

offering opportunities for socialization and recreational activities among families;

providing information and educational materials relevant to families;

and utilizing professional and paraprofessionals for group leadership and childcare.

Text Box: Respite

Respite services provide families with planned periods of respite in order to ensure that parents are able to maintain a consistent level of parenting and enhance permanency in families.
