Real Alternatives

Two words, "I’m pregnant", and your whole world seems upside down. Maybe you’re scared, confused and feeling alone. But you’re not. There are people who understand how you feel. They will take the time to listen to you and give you the help and support you need. Counseling is available so that you can talk about your situation and get the help you need.

The counselor will also help you with maternity and baby clothing, food and furniture, whatever you need to keep you and your baby healthy.

The agency is also a provider for the Real Alternatives to Abortion or Project WIN. Real Alternatives is a State funded program to help women who think they are pregnant, who are pregnant and assist them up to twelve months after a child's birth.

Healthy Beginnings Plus is a state-funded maternal health program which helps pregnant women who are eligible for Medical Assistance have a positive prenatal experience.

The program is administered through the Greater Hazleton Health Alliance using a team approach to provide comprehensive services.

Together with the medical staff and the nutrition counselor, Catholic Social Services serves as part of this team, offering on-site as well as home-based services to ensure that patients have a wonderful, healthy pregnancy.

* Prenatal medical visits with an on-site physician

* Highly qualified and experienced nursing staff

* Social workers available for on-site and home visits

* Nutritional counseling by a registered dietitian

* On-site laboratory

* Drug and alcohol abuse counseling

* Smoking cessation assistance

* Pre-natal education classes

* Assistance in applying for Medical Assistance benefits
